Joe Russo's Almost Dead, New York’s sensational jam band and rock music artists are bringing their signature sounds to State Theater Portland!
The band was formed in Brooklyn in 2013 by Joe Russo. He was the drummer of rock band Further (featuring Phil Lesh and Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead) and is one half of alternative jazz and rock group the Benevento/Russo Duo). Joe Russo's Almost Dead mostly plays covers of Grateful Dead songs and the band’s line up consists of Joe (drums, vocals), Dave Dreiwitz (bass, vocals), Marco Benevento (keyboards), Scott Metzger (guitar, vocals), and Tom Hamilton (guitar, vocals). Joe was born in Brooklyn in 1976 and went on to make a name for himself with his drumming skills. His fierce and complex drumming style has earned him the nickname The Madness and he’s recorded and performed with many other bands such as Cass McCombs, A Big Yes and a Small No, Fat Mama, Robert Walter's 20th Congress, Bustle In Your Hedgerow, Younger Brother, Shpongle, Tom Hamilton's American Babies, and the Gene Ween Band. He also played drums for the collaboration with Trey Anastasio, Mike Gordon, and Marco Benevento (sometimes referred to as GRAB or Mike and the Italians). He’s won 2 New Groove awards at the Jammys (an awards show for jam bands and other artists associated with live, improvisational music).
